The Pharmaceutical Industry -- An Excerpt From Living A God-Glorifying Life Through Good Health
The food and pharmaceutical industry provide a classic
example of a vicious, unending circle. The food industry
introduce their loyal consumers to the pharmaceutical industry.
How do they do this? By utilizing technologies which have been
proven to cause, or are linked to, whether directly or indirectly, weight gain and obesity, cancer, heart disease, etc.
The technologies used are genetic food modification (Read more about this in Chapter 5), the addition of dangerous sugars and sweeteners, the stripping away of vital nutrients and the use of chemical bleaching agents, and injecting cows and other animals with hormones and antibiotics. Residual amounts of these harmful chemicals find their way into the human food chain. A potential drug customer is in the making.
When a health problem emerges from eating processed foods, the consumer is prescribed the appropriate pharmaceutical medication or medications. These prescription drugs merely treat the symptom, and so the suffering consumer is doomed to take these harmful drugs for life.
In the meantime, he is still eating and drinking the food companies’ products which made him sick in the first place. Do you see the vicious circle? Both the food and pharmaceutical industry profit big time!
The exploited consumer is like the woman with the issue of blood. She went from doctor to doctor seeking help and relief. The only thing that changed was her bank account. It dropped from something to nothing while she remained sick.
Type 2 diabetes used to be known as adult-onset diabetes. At one time this affliction was confined to the adult population. Now children are being diagnosed with it.
The causes of type 2 diabetes are, among other things, obesity, a high sugar diet, sedentary life, etc. There is now a body of research that indicates that the current crop of drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes raises the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
Type 2 diabetes provides a gold mine for the pharmaceutical
industry. The statistics are a cause for concern. Consider the following:
1) 18 million Americans have type 2 diabetes 2) over 1/3
of the new cases reported occur in children and teenagers and 3) the total cost of type 2 diabetes is estimated at 132 billion dollars in the United States alone!
Contrary to what the pharmaceutical industry says, a change
in lifestyle is the only way to combat this disease. It is certainly the safest. Big Pharma is only interested in treating this moneymaker, certainly not to prevent it or cure it. They will tell you that diet and exercise matters, but, their drug must also be used. They are not so stupid as to cause any decline in usage of their big money-making drugs.
Introduction to Legal Unnatural Drugs (Chapter 6)
Turn to any network commercial television channel and you are
guaranteed to see at least one advertisement for a synthetic drug
during a commercial break. Big Pharma’s (the drug industry)
advertising budget literally runs into the billions of dollars.
These dollars are well spent on slick, Madison Avenue commercials
which enthrall you in its message. They are hard to resist. These
commercials are so well produced that they seem 100 percent
honest. They will have you believing that only they provide the
answer for your medical problem.
". . . The general public has been brainwashed by tv ads,
the news media, and the fda into believing that prescription
drugs enrich their lives. Many also still believe
that government agencies such as the fda ensure that
these drugs are safe and perform the way the pharmaceutical
companies claim they do. Hogwash. . ." (David Williams, Alternatives (For the Health-Conscious Individual; April, 2006 Volume II, No. 10)
The above quote was taken from an article entitled Legal Drugs
Kill, Too. This article also mentioned the now infamous drug
Vioxx. Vioxx was on the market for five years. It has been estimated that between 88,000 and 139,000 heart attacks and strokes were related to the drug’s use. Big Pharma is not your friend; neither is the FDA.
“. . . The public seems to genuinely believe that drugs
advertised on tv are safe, in spite of the plethora of
side effects listed by the commercial’s narrator, ranging
from diarrhea to death. . . Remember all those tv ads
heralding the wonders of Vioxx?. . . ” (www.newstarget.com/009278.html)
Human nature being what it is, the very drugs consumers see
advertised over and over again on tv are the ones they ask their
doctors for. That’s why tv commercials are so important for the
drug industry. Big Pharma has very deep pockets to promote their
prescription and nonprescription drugs.
The consumer, despite the required disclaimer of possible side effects, feels that these drugs must be safe. After all, if they were dangerous, the government wouldn’t allow them to be advertised. The tragedy with Vioxx should be a wake up call to all of us. Safety of the consumer is not Big Pharma’s or the FDA’s major concern. Profits are their one and only concern.
All drugs advertised by the pharmaceutical industry are
synthetic and have been sanctioned by the Federal Drug
Administration (FDA). This is why I refer to them as ‘legal’ unnatural drugs. They are unnatural because they are chemical compounds formulated in a laboratory and are not ‘recognized’ by the body. This is why they cause the side effects that the pharmaceutical companies have to announce. But what they don’t tell you is that these drugs could lead to far greater medical risks.
Also these legal unnatural drugs are not formulated to ‘cure’
anyone of anything. They are manufactured to simply mask and
relieve the symptom of the real cause of the medical problem. For
instance, cancer is a symptom of an underlying problem. That
problem could be toxic buildup in body tissues, too much saturated fat, a diet high in refined carbohydrates or processed foods, or any number of other things.
There is an old saying which goes like this, 'if you don't know your history you are doomed to repeat it.' This principle can be applied to your desire to lose weight and reclaim your health.
Knowing how it was in your great-grandparents and grandparents days when there was no obesity crisis will give you the assurance that you too can live in health just like they did. And when you find out what happened to change their healthier lifestyle, you will gain an appreciation for an active life and a return to more wholesome foods.
