Living A
God-Glorifying Life Through Good Health.
(Featured on CNN)
When I was growing up in the '50s and '60s, there was no obesity epidemic, and children were not
developing old-age maladies such as heart disease. Cancer, Alzheimer's, and autism were virtually
unheard of. Living a healthy lifestyle was a lot easier.

the telecom industry's very own
research in a 13-country Interphone study revealed an 82 percent increased risk of brain cancer
from 1,640 or more hours of cell phone use? (In addition, research independent of the telecom industry has shown
a 540 percent elevated risk of developing brain cancer from over 2,000 hours exposure to cell phone electromagnetic radiation.
At the time of the Interphone study, heavy use of cell phones was defined as two hours per month! Today's children are at a heightened risk because they are exposed to cell phones practically from birth.
The Interphone study was carried out in 1998 - 1999; during this period only about 50 percent of people used cell phones. A control group was much easier to find compared to today where it is a rarity to find anybody who doesn't own a cell phone.
Brain tumor analyst L. Lloyd Morgan says that the Interphone study showed an increased risk of brain cancer which is beyond all doubt.
The journal Surgical Neurology published a review of 11 long-term epidemiologic cell phone studies in 2009. The review showed that cell phone use for 10 or more years approximately doubles risk of being diagnosed with a brain tumor on the side of the head where the phone is predominately used.
The lead researcher of that review was Prof. Mild. He cautioned that the danger may be even greater because cancers need a minimum of 10 years to develop.
The report Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern, Science, and Spin and the Truth Behind Interphone concludes:
All is not "doom and gloom" though. There are things that can protect those who are least able to protect themselves.
Lead author of the Interphone study, Elizabeth Cardis, and Siegel Sadetzki who led the Israeli part of the study advise the following precautions:
"Simple and low-cost measures, such as the use of text messages, hands-free kits and/or the loudspeaker mode of the phone could substantially reduce exposure to the brain from mobile phones."
"Therefore, until definitive scientific answers are available, the adoption of such precautions, particularly among young people, is advisable."
"While more studies are needed, indications of an increased risk (of gliomas - a particularly dangerous form of brain tumor) in high and long-term users from
Interphone and other studies are of concern ... Even a small risk at the individual level could eventually result in a considerable number of tumors and become an
important public-health issue."

(3) swimming in a chlorinated pool poses a health risk? (A study was conducted in which 49 volunteers participated. These volunteers were discovered to have haloacetic acid (HAAs) in their urine 20 to 30 minutes after swimming in a chlorinated pool.
HAAs have been associated with birth defects and cancer. Because of their potential danger, they are tightly restricted in drinking water.
Tests show that the HAAs lingered in the study participants' systems for up to 3 hours.
You don't have to actually swim in a chlorinated pool to absorb this toxic chemical; HAAs can be absorbed into your body by your proximity to chlorinated water. They can be absorbed through your skin and through inhalation.)
(4) kids spend only an average of 4 to 7 minutes outdoors but well over 7 hours in front of electronic media (cellphones, video games, computers, cable and satellite TV)? (This sedentary and pushbutton lifestyle has led to a scary increase in childhood obesity and antidepressant medication. This trend has also led to declining creativity, concentration, and social skills.)
(5) an increasing number of women between the ages of 50 and 64 are saying 'No' to the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT)? (This welcomed news is the result of a recent study. According to the very same study, this result is linked to fewer women getting mammograms.
When HRT was linked to breast cancer, women who chose to undergo the procedure declined between the years 2000 and 2005.)
(6) raw milk (currently banned by the U.S. government) is thousands of times safer than any other food? (The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is staging an all out war against farmers who produce and sell raw milk. This senseless assault against the consumers constitional right to purchase any food of their choosing amounts to nothing more than the government riding "roughshod" over the people.
The truth of the matter is that the government's own data shows that raw milk is inherently many times safer than any other food. A 2007 CDC FoodNet survey showed that 3.04 percent of the US population consumes raw milk (approximately 9.4 million people based on the 2010 census.)
The purchase and consumption is growing in popularity; sales of raw milk increased 25 percent in California while sales of pasteurized milk declined by 3 percent.
Enlightening research was undertaken by Dr. Ted Beals, MD and published in the journal Wise Traditions, a quarterly publication of the Weston A. Price Foundation. His study shows that you are 35,000 times more likely to get sick from other foods than from raw milk.
Between 1999 and 2010, an average of 42 cases per year of illnesses were attributed to raw milk. This figure includes confirmed and presumed cases!
Dr. Beals writes:
"From the perspective of a national public health professional looking at an estimated total of 48 million foodborne illnesses each year [from all foods] ... there is no rational justification to focus national attention on raw milk, which may be associated with an average of 42 illnesses maximum among the more than nine million people (about 0.0005 percent) who have chosen to drink milk in its fresh unprocessed form.")
(7) Julia Child put her stamp of approval on saturated fats by saying, "Enjoy eating saturated fats, they're good for you"?
(8) mother's milk is 60 percent whey protein and 40 percent casein protein? (Cow's milk, on the other hand, is composed of 20 percent whey and 80 percent casein. The majority of cow's milk contains Beta A1 casein which is highly inflammatory; human milk has Beta A2 casein.)
(9) scientists have produced genetically modified (GM) chickens? (The scientists genetically engineered
the chickens to not be able to transmit the bird flu virus to other chickens. But these GM chickens
may still suffer the disease themselves.
Peter Bradnock of the British Poultry Council says more research is needed to understand the long-term health impact of GM. A study that was published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences found that human organs that respond to chemical food poisoning were the first to have problems after subjects ate GM foods.
The researchers concluded that GM foods should not be made available to consumers.
Scientists have been experimenting with the genetic coding of chickens for years. In 2007, they genetically modified chickens to contain a protein used in anti-cancer drugs.
It is impossible to know whether GM chicken is being sold on the open market. That fact doesn't have to be disclosed on the label. Your only recourse is to buy organic, free-ranged poultry and meat, and shun conventionally-produced poultry and meat altogether.)
(10) the foods you choose to eat are many times more important in weight control than exercise?
(11) an insect has developed a resistance to "Roundup ready" corn? (About 75 percent of America's corn crop is genetically engineered. Theoretically, Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) crop is supposed to kill weeds and any pest which feeds on the GM crop.
However, the Western rootworm beetle, which loves to feed on corn, is once again devestating corn crops across America. These rootworms join the ranks of weeds known as "superweeds" which shrug off the Roundup herbicide.
This reminds me of the Chiffon margarine commercial of the 1970s. The consumer supposedly couldn't taste the difference between it and butter. The catch phrase was, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature."
This is exactly what money hungry biotech company Monsanto is attempting to do with its program of genetic modification.)
(12) muscle loss occurs at the rate of 1 percent per year beginning at 45 years of age?
(13) chiropractic care can effectively help in the anti-aging battle? (Scientists estimate that every cell in your body has to stand up to about 10,000 separate attacks from free radicals. But the body has been designed by God to rebuild the damage caused, and thereby heal itself.
Research has shown that chiropratic care can stabilize and enhance that self-healing ability.
The central nervous system is your body's main system which controls all bodily functions and healings. The flow of nerve energy from the brain coordinates all 75 trillion cells into action.
The brain itself is fed through movement information that it receives from skin, joint, and muscle receptors. This information is called proprioception. Optimal brain functioning depends on proprioception.
Stress to your nerves happens when the spinal bones are twisted or thrown out of alignment. This happens through physical trauma which is brought on by falls, car accidents, and sports activities.
Micro trauma can damage the nerves and spinal column too. Physical nerve stress causes a slowdown of healthy brain-body signaling, and an increase in the release of cortisol, a stress hormone. This interferes with your body's natural healing ability.
Chiropractic adjustments remove this built up stress allowing the body to heal itself. Multiple studies have shown that chiropractic care to be a strong anti-aging process.
A 2005 study published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation found evidence that chiropractic care can reduce oxidative stress in your body. When
free radicals outnumber the antioxidants in your body, oxidative stress damage results. Oxidative stress harms proteins,
lipids (fats), and DNA.)

(14) another 185,000 pounds of ground turkey have been recalled due to salmonella contamination? (Cargill voluntarily recalled the infected meat when the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) testing showed low level contamination with Salmonella Heidelberg bacteria.
This latest outbreak follows the third largest recall (August 3, 2011) in US history when 36 million pounds of ground turkey was found to be contaminated. Both outbreaks occured at Cargill's Arkansas plant.)
(15) a study revealed that for every hour spent watching TV, life expectancy is shortened by 22 minutes? (This finding is the result of research conducted by experts at the University of Queensland, Australia. They state further that anyone who spends six hours in front of the TV set runs the risk of dying five years sooner than someone who has a more active pastime.
According to these experts:
"TV viewing time may have adverse health consequences that rival those of lack of physical activity, obesity and smoking...")
(16) yeast extract is a hidden source of MSG? (The active ingredient in MSG (monosodium glutamate) is free glutamate or glutamic acid. Food manufacturers are not required to list MSG on labels if the free glutamate is less than 78 percent of an additive. This is a loophole in labeling laws which manufacturers are very happen to take advantage of.
Although glutamate does occur in nature in plants, it is always bound to a protein or other molecules. It is benign in this form. Natural glutamate is present in small quantities.
Produced synthetically though, it is a different story. Synthetic glutamate is free, and not bound to anything. This is the reason that it presents a health threat.
Manufacturers use synthetic glutamate in foods rather than natural oils and spices because it is cheaper. MSG works deceptively because it "makes" you think the flavor is in the food instead of just in your brain.
When food manufacturers use MSG such as yeast extract, they can label their products "no added MSG." Though technically correct, it is blatantly deceptive.
Unfortunately, yeast extract can also be found in products labeled organic. An example is Simply Organic Spicy Chili.)
(17) 46 percent of Americans fit a diagnosis for some form of mental illness?
(18) curry powders tend to have very little curcumin
compared to turmeric? (Although this conclusion is based on only one study, I'd rather err on the side of caution
and purchase turmeric powder.
Look for organic turmeric; I buy the Simply Organic brand of turmeric. It has the USDA organic seal. The only ingredient in this product is organic turmeric.)
(19) according to statistics, black men are 36 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than white men?
(20) diabetes significantly increases the risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer's disease? (A new study recently printed in the journal Neurology confirmed what has been seen in previous studies. Neurology is the publication of the American Academy of Neurology.
The study's author, Yutaka Kiyohara, MD, PhD, of Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, comments:
"Our findings emphasize the need to consider diabetes as a potential risk factor for dementia ... Diabetes is a common disorder, and the number of people with it has been growing in recent years all over the world. Controlling diabetes is now more important than ever."
Research shows that people with diabetes have double the risk of developing Alzheimer's and other types of dementia as those with normal
blood sugar levels.)

(21) by exercising as little as 15 minutes a day can add three years to your life? (This is according to a study published in the journal Lancet. The study involved several hundred thousand people over the course of 12 years (from 1996 to 2008.)
The same study also discovered that people who exercised 15 minutes a day or 90 minutes a week experienced a 14 percent reduced risk of mortality from all causes.
"Every additional 15 minutes of daily exercise beyond the minimum amount of 15 minutes a day further reduced all-cause mortality by 4 percent, and all-cancer mortality by 1 percent. These benefits were applicable to all age groups and both sexes, and to those with cardiovascular disease risks."
"Individuals who were inactive had a 17 percent increased risk of mortality compared with individuals in the low-volume group.")
(22) calorie restriction results in a startling increase in ghrelin secretion? (Ghrelin is the hormone made by the stomach in times of hunger; on the opposite end of the spectrum is leptin. Also a hormone, leptin is secreted by your fat cells. It gives you a feeling of fullness which shuts down the hunger center.
Severely restricting caloric intake in an effort to lose weight is a losing proposition. It naturally stimulates ghrelin production which makes you very hungry and possibly leading to overeating.
As a side note, the cravings are almost always for calorie-dense junk food. It is usually high sugar snacks which are notorious for accelerating global obesity rates.
Researchers at Stanford University found that people who get 5 hours or less of sleep a night developed a 15 percent greater amount of ghrelin and 15 percent less leptin than those who got at least 8 hours of sleep per night.
Your body has a fail safe way to keep it running optimally. And as far as weight is concerned, God has created a check and balancing system between ghrelin and leptin. This system controls your hunger and satiety (fullness.)
Continuing cycles of ghrelin increases and leptin decreases can lead to leptin resistance. This is a condition where your body can no longer "hear" the hormone leptin telling you that your are full. Result? You constantly eat, gaining ever increasing amounts of weight.
Melatonin, another hormone, can help to heal leptin receptors and restore leptin sensitivity. This hormone helps control sleep and wake cycles. Small amounts of melatonin are found in meats, grains, fruits and vegetables.
Sleep deprived individuals don't secrete enough melatonin to restore leptin to normal levels.)
(23) Fructose specifically causes cancer cells to multiply? (It is well known that sugar in general causes cancerous cells to thrive. But studies show that the effect of fructose is especially problematic.
Researchers studied the relationship between increased dietary consumption of refined sugar and cancer risk. They however emphasized fructose. Published in Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets, researchers wrote:
"Recent observations indicate that cancer cells readily utilize fructose to support proliferation and preferentially use fructose for nucleic acid synthesis."
According to the researchers, dietary fructose is able to promote cancer in different ways, some of which are:
Scientists note that different sugars are not all metabolized the same way. Different metabolic pathways are used.
Researchers who published their study results in Cancer Research stated:
"Importantly, fructose and glucose metabolism are quite different ... These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation."
What makes the issue of fructose so important is that although it is naturally present in fruit, it is many times more prevalent in the standard American diet (SAD.) One form or another of fructose is present in 5 of the 10 top calorie sources in America.
Americans in general are consuming fructose at levels of 3 to 600 percent ABOVE the upper limit.
To avoid cancer development and you are in good health, total fructose intake should not exceed 25 grams a day. If however you have been diagnosed with cancer, limit your intake to under 10 grams per day (including fruit.)
Listed below is the fructose content of some common fruit:
| Fruit | Serving Size | Fructose (grams) |
| Limes | 1 medium | 0 |
| Lemons | 1 medium | 0.6 |
| Cranberries | 1 cup | 0.7 |
| Passion fruit | 1 medium | 0.9 |
| Prune | 1 medium | 1.2 |
| Apricot | 1 medium | 1.3 |
| Guava | 2 medium | 2.2 |
| Cantaloupe | 1/8 med. melon | 2.8 |
| Raspberries | 1 cup | 3 |
| Kiwifruit | 1 medium | 3.4 |
| Blackberries | 1 cup | 3.5 |
| Sweet cherries | 10 | 3.8 |
| Strawberries | 1 cup | 3.8 |
| Pineapple | 1 slice (3.5"x.75") | 4.0 |
| Grapefruit (red or pink) | 1/2 medium | 4.3 |
| Nectarine | 1 medium | 5.4 |
| Peach | 1 medium | 5.9 |
| Navel orange | 1 medium | 6.1 |
| Papaya | 1/2 medium | 6.3 |
| Honeydew | 1/8 medium | 6.7 |
| Banana | 1 medium | 7.1 |
| Apple (composite) | 1 medium | 9.5 |
| Watermelon | 1/16 medium | 11.3 |
| Pear | 1 medium | 11.8 |
| Raisins | 1/4 cup | 12.3 |
I should emphasize that fruit is not the culprit here. The reason that fruit consumption has to be so seriously curtailed is because so much fructose is in almost all of the processed foods we eat. America is literally overdosing on fructose.
Fructose is fructose. Your body processes fructose from fruit the same way it processes it in the manufactured foods you eat on a daily basis.)
(24) in the 1940s, a good milk cow produced approximately 4,500 pounds of milk per year, but today's cows produce about 200,000 pounds per year?
(24) ascorbic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin C? (Like the hit song sung by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing. As far as supplementation is concerned, whole food sourced vitamins are far superior to synthetics.
Isolated vitamins and mega-doses reign supreme in today's world of synthetics. But this is not according to nature. The mineral copper is necessary to receive the full benefits of vitamin while selenium is necessary to get the full benefits of vitamin E.
Studies have shown the detrimental effects of the heavy dosing of certain synthetics. Massive intake of ascorbic acid can make your arterial walls thicker by up to two and a half times. This creates an increased risk of developing heart disease.
Too much synthetic vitamin E leaches nutrients like calcium and magnesium from your bones; heavy synthetic vitamin A has been linked to higher cancer rates.)
(25) New York City council member Peter Vallone, Jr. has introduced a bill (along with 7 co-sponsors) prohibiting the fluoridation of New York City's water supply? (New York City provides water to over 8 million residents. The bill is currently awaiting a public hearing.
Mr. Vallone says that he will kick-start his bill's campaign with a press conference and rally on the steps of city hall this fall.)
(26) two handfuls of cashews give the therapeutic equivalent of a prescription dose of Prozac? (Prozac is an antidepressant medication which was given FDA approval in 1987. It is believed to work by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain.
Prozac is a member of the serotonin-reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) family (like Zoloft and Paxil.
The most common side effects of Prozac are: anxiety or nervousness, insomnia, drowsiness, headaches, diarrhea, and rashes. It has also been shown to cause changes in appetite and weight (often weight gain.))
(27) organic food is a $14 billion business in the United States? (Americans are becoming more and more educated to the necessity of buying quality food for good health. And with so many consumer dollars being spent on organic foods, some unscrupulous retailers will do just about anything to get a large slice of that business.
Wal-Mart is the largest organic retailer in the United States. According to Organic Consumers Association (OCA), Wal-Mart:
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection investigated the retail giant in 2007. After three months they found Wal-Mart guilty of labeling conventional foods as organic.)
(28) 88 percent of all corn and 94 percent of all soy grown in the US are genetically modified? (BT toxin is present in many GM crops. This toxin makes crops toxic to pests, but it DOES NOT break down in the human gut rendering it harmless (industry FALSELY claims that BT toxin poses no danger to the environment or human health because the protein breaks down in the human gut.)
Soy and corn can be found almost universally in almost all processed foods in the consumer market. The only way to totall avoid them is to make sure that the food products you buy state "USDA 100% Organic" on the label.
Local Harvest is an excellent resource where you can find farmers' markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and other foods.
You can also download a free guide to non-GMO food products here. Or you can go to the Non-GMO Shopping Guide.)
(29) according to Nielsen, "GMO-free" is now one of the fastest growing store brand label claims? (Nielsen, the global marketing and advertising research company headquartered in Lower Manhattan, disclosed its finding in February, 2011.)
(30) eating just a small amount of sugar can compromise your immune system's white blood cells by up to 50 percent?
(31) menstruation will not happen until your bodyfat level rises above 17 percent?
(32) the number one food that kids love is chicken nuggets?
(33) American food and beverage companies spend upwards to $2 billion annually promoting unhealthy foods (Read junk) to children?
(34) women with high cholesterol live longer and have fewer heart attacks and strokes than women with low cholesterol?
(35) legal prescription drugs are killing many more people than illegal street drugs?
(36) not all trans fatty acids are bad? (It's true. The only dangerous trans fatty acids are the ones which are man-made.
As you may have guessed, good trans fats are found in nature. They are in meat and dairy products.
Ruminant animals like cattle, sheep, goats, etc. produce good trans fats in their stomachs. These trans fats then find their way into the animal's fat stores.
This natural trans fatty acid is known as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA.)
(37) the typical cow in 1950 lived to be 10 to 15 years old while the typical factory-farmed cow of today lives an average of only 5 years?
